Grades: Students’ grades will be based on various assessments. In some chapters, tests and worksheets evaluating their grasp on content will make up the majority of their grade. In other chapters, a project will serve as their assessment. These projects offer many choices and allow students to tap into all learning modalities and multiple intelligences. These projects do require work out of class. This does not mean parents have to help. Just know that students will be expected to spend an amount of time on their projects outside of class in order to meet project requirements. These expectations will be clear and given well in advance of the due dates. If there are ever any questions regarding these projects, please contact me as soon as possible. If I don’t hear anything from anyone, I assume work is in progress and all expectations are understood and attainable. When possible, I will have examples of completed projects from past years to show students. Thank you, in advance, for your support and time in these projects. Students are very proud of their final product when they are finished. In the end, these projects often times hold more meaning and demonstrate more knowledge acquisition than any test could ever assess. In other words, the benefits outweigh the time challenge.
